4. Look at the Side Effects
There are side effects that come with ADHD medications for children. Lack of appetite and difficulty sleeping are two common ones. My son is dealing with both of these issues now. He is a ravenous animal because he is STARVING by 10p.m. when his medication wears off, and he is typically awake until around 11p.m. every night. We have made accommodations as a family. So what if he just sits during dinner and keeps us company? I reheat his meal when he is hungry. An 11p.m. bedtime is not ideal (especially for any type of romance), however he wakes up at 7:00 for school so he is getting his eight hours of sleep. Believe me, I would much prefer these side effects to the side effects of ADHD.
