Raise your hand if you hate Facebook (or all social media). And by “hate” we mean you are addicted to it, you check status updates every twelve seconds, and even though you are annoyed by the ads and the fact that your entire life is public knowledge, you can’t stop. So, technically it’s a love-hate relationship. We’re right there with you. But good news for everyone who needs a social networking change: the Ello social network has arrived!
Facebook’s sleek new competitor has a lot to prove and a lot to achieve if it wants to measure up to The Book, and the game is on. Other sites have tried and failed, and most of us never even knew their names. So what exactly makes Ello so cool and different? The Ello Manifesto sums it up beautifully: We believe a social network can be a tool for empowerment. Not a tool to deceive, coerce and manipulate — but a place to connect, create and celebrate life. You are not a product. Okay, keep talking, because we’re listening… Here are 13 facts about Ello that you should know before you kiss your other social networking profiles goodbye.
1. It’s invite-only.
There’s just something intriguing about a social media network you need to be invited to join. It seems exclusive, private, safe and you feel like you need to be a part of it RIGHT NOW. If you want to try out Ello for yourself, you can request an invite on their site or find out if someone you know is already a member. Membership is limited while they continue to work out the kinks.
