8. She is dedicated to philanthropic work
In 1997 Shakira founded Pies Descalzos Foundation, a Colombian charity with special schools for poor children all around Colombia. The organization provides 4,000 Colombian children each year with access to meals, education, and psychological support. She has also been awarded a medal by the UN International Labor Organization, and on October 5, 2011, US President Barack Obama announced that Shakira was appointed as a member of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. She’s a do-gooder who knows what she stands for and uses every opportunity she has to bring attention to causes that are close to her heart.
