Cinematic bathing beauty Esther Williams launched a swimsuit collection way back in the 50s and actress/socialite Gloria Vanderbilt made designer jeans a wardrobe staple in the 70s but in the past decade celebrity clothing lines have virtually taken over the fashion industry. This season the trend continues with capsule collections and collaborations to fit just about every taste and budget. Here are a few of the latest star style endeavors in stores now and coming this fall.
IN STORES NOW
Selena Gomez • Dream Out Loud for Kmart
Selena Gomez launched her first Dream Out Loud collection for Kmart in 2010 and the latest line hit stores in July, cementing her fashionista status. Like Selena herself, it’s a fantastic assortment of fun, flirty—but always ladylike—teen looks just in time for back to school. Even more impressive, Dream Out Loud is a label with a conscience; using a percentage of eco-friendly fabrics and factories with established sustainability practices.
Kate Hudson • Ann Taylor
Kate Hudson’s capsule collection for Ann Taylor hit stores this May. Like the bubbly, boho-chic girl herself, the clothes are easy, wearable, and always elegant—perfect for summer at the beach. Always a multitasker, Kate’s debuting a new collaboration with JustFab, called Fabletics, featuring quality, affordable athletic wear for moms on the go. We can’t wait!
Beyoncé • H&M
Although there was an initial to-do over whether Swedish retailer H&M had trimmed down Beyoncé’s famous curves in the ads for her limited-edition swimsuit line—the curves were restored and both Bey and her bikinis look spectacular.
Matthew Mcconaughey • JKL (Just Keep Livin’)
He’s got abs of steel, a heart of gold, and great fashion sense. Matthew Mcconaughey’s JKL (Just Keep Livin’) line, available at Dillards, is true to his hippie/fitness aesthetic—easy performance wear that you can live in. Rihanna’s debut spring/summer 2013 collection, with co-designer Adam Selman, for U.K. retailer River Island flew out of stores. Her autumn/winter 2013-14 collection hitting shelves this September promises to be even more ambitious. While it was a bit of a challenge for the Barbados-born songstress to design for chillier weather, the 80-piece collection described by River Island as “urban sports lux” looks to have a spectacular range of pieces for the party girl and the sporty sophisticate.
Cameron Diaz • Pour La Victoire
As the new artistic director for Pour La Victoire, Cameron will have a hand in designing shoes and handbags for the sensible working girl. We’ll get a taste of her picks for fall and Holiday in the coming months before her first collection arrives in spring 2014.
