8. Some question its purpose. Is it a punishment, a deterrent, both?
The death penalty is intended to be justice but one must wonder if ‘an eye for an eye’ is really appropriate…ever. Prison studies also indicate that the death penalty, perhaps due to its endless appeals, is not an effective deterrent.
