I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by strong and determined women in a culture known for its machismo. Led by my mother, who taught me the value of intelligence, wit, charm, beauty and femininity, I was handed down these heirlooms, these traits so necessary to navigate womanhood. My grandmothers Tita and Mam, great-aunt Nona, my godmother Florence and my great-aunt Toe fortified this cocoon of femininity.
