Color trends aside, for some of us cinema fans, it’s hard to forget when Audrey Hepburn’s Holly Golightly character from Breakfast at Tiffany’s declared in the backseat of a New York city cab: “Hand me my purse will you, darling? A girl can’t read this sort of thing without putting on her lipstick.” The truth is, in real life, Hepburn was rarely spotted without her signature strawberry stained mouth. And for some of you, including some Mamiverse staffers, even going across the street to pick up milk in the morning requires lipstick. There are just some of us who would not be caught dead without it.

The good news for spring 2015 color trends, this season is that there’s a lot of leeway out there for lipstick trends to suit the palette and style preferences of any woman. From fire engine red, to deep berry, orange tones, to barely there, whichever you choose to flaunt this season, remember some key advice from makeup expert Veronica Chu, who told The Huffington Post to not be one of those women who still line their lips with a darker color than their lipstick. “That look has got to go,” she said. Chu added that you don’t have abandon lip liner altogether. “I wear a very bright neon orange lipstick and without my neon orange lip liner underneath, it doesn’t make the same impact. The trick is to choose a lip liner that is almost an exact match to your lipstick.” Now with that said, here’s your spring color guide to the perfect puckers.

Come Hither Red
This throw back trend, to the golden days of Hollywood, when red was what defined the careers of starlets like Rita Hayworth and Elizabeth Taylor, has been revamped  with today’s blood-red colors that could be as vampire-esque  as a siren from True Blood. Whether you prefer your red  stamped on, smudgy or with a just kissed look, we all know this is going to be one hot summer.

Vitamin-Fueled Orange
Also key in color trends: orange is the new pink. What shade you choose depends on your skin tone. But if you are olive skinned, and plan to get tan this summer, go for an apricot shade of orange like the gorgeous Jessica Alba does. First, she bronzed up her make-up, threw on a cool white dress and grabbed Face Stockholm’s Sunflower lipstick shade and hit the red carpet.

Deep Berry Dreams
Whether deep aubergine or a creamy plum tone attracts you, runways makeup artists liked diffusing these shades around the lips’ edges for a sultry, stained look. If your mood is goth drama paint in on thick and pout. If it’s softer, go for a sheer tint of deep berry that gives you a provocative glow and that will keep everyone guessing ‘what has she been up to?’

Naughty Nudes
On the Spring fashion runways, as Harper’s Bazaar reports, makeup artists were big on the pinky-nude lipstick shades. To achieve this look it’s best to moisturize your lips, add a touch of concealer to neutralize the palette if you have a naturally rosy pigmentation, and then add a pale lip color. Soft peaches, pinks, beiges are what’s hot, and especially worn with either cat-eye, smoky makeup or pale eye makeup and rosy cheeks.
