1. Twinkie’s crème filling was originally banana flavored. The government rationed bananas in WWII so Hostess changed the flavor to vanilla. Over the years, Hostess has tried other flavors (including strawberries and cream) but none have sold as well as the now standard vanilla. We’re fine with this, as it turns out, because we have tried them all and have found vanilla to be by far the very best flavor.
