3. There is a debate over whether it is medically ethical for physicians to be present at executions. However, physicians are the only really qualified individuals to pronounce death and insure there is no suffering.
It takes a skilled professional to administer the correct amounts of each drug to properly anesthetize, relax and ultimately kill a prisoner. The lack of properly trained medical staff leads to botched executions (see above) and the possibility of an incredibly painful experience for the person lying on the table. It could be as inhumane a practice as the gas chamber or electrocution.
