When planting fruit trees, you need a spot that gets plenty of sun and has good soil drainage. To determine how quickly your soil drains, dig a one-foot hole and fill it with water. Ideally the water should drain out within 3-4 hours.

When to plant is just as important as how to plant a fruit tree. This depends on what type of trees you have and what zone you live in. Most fruit trees do best when they’re planted in early spring or early fall.
