9. Protection
Although they need lots of sun to grow, baby trees need a little protection too. Paint the trunk with a 50/50 mix of white latex paint and water to prevent sunburn. You can also use a trunk guard for even more protection.

10. Growth
Planting fruit trees takes patience so don’t expect to be eating fruit salad and making preserves right away. Your seedling won’t be ready to bear fruit for three or four years. You should remove any fruit that forms in the first couple of years because the weight can break young branches.
