Brazilian chef, Alex Atala recently told Bloomberg, “Latin America has amazing ingredients and great chefs coming up. It’s going to spread across the world.” Well we have news for them, Hispanic food has already spread across the world! Right here in America, food trends that many think of as U.S. originals are actually straight up Latin.
Because American and Latin cultures are so intertwined, our food tastes, styles and preferences have mixed to create a sort of fusion of flavors that we all love—regardless of what we call it. For real though, we feel the need to point out just a few (okay 15) Hispanic food trends in America that owe both their origin and popularity to Latin countries.
1. Spicy Foods
From chips to dips to hamburgers, pretty much everything comes in a spicy chipotle or jalapeno flavor. They’re all Latin thanks to the peppers’ origins.
