Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, a former head of Chicago University’s psychology department, once described flow as completely focused motivation. Void of depression and anxiety, flow channels positive emotions to align with the task at hand. Regardless of the activity, experiencers of flow often lose awareness of time itself. Another way of thinking of flow is as being “in the zone.”
You’ve probably experienced the event of flow in many instances; while running, dancing or playing an instrument—it can happen with just about anything as long as physical action is involved.
