As I thought of what I would ask him, we chatted about more trivial things, and then he told me his wife Gloria Estefan will soon travel to Rome to meet the new Pope Francis. That reminded me that the Estefan family is united by faith—the couple has stuck together since the day they met, as lovers, business partners and friends. The Estefans endured tough moments, most notably the terrible bus accident that nearly paralyzed Gloria. Their difficult times have made them more sensitive to those less fortunate than them. They were quick to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Andrew in Florida and the earthquake in Haiti, and these are just a few examples of their philanthropy and willingness to help others.
