1. It makes me happy.
From a mental health perspective, an addiction to drugs, tobacco or alcohol is filling an emotional hole so it may very well make you happy. That said, recognizing that it’s not a healthy habit and will not bring long term, genuine happiness will leave you with an even bigger hole to fill. One of the first steps in recovering from an addiction is recognizing what void you are filling and then work to either heal that wound or fill it with something else, something that’s better for you overall. You can do it. We know it!
