The best way to connect with anyone is by finding similar interests. Sharing a hobby gives you a common vocabulary and something to focus your interactions around besides potential conflicts.
8. Check In
Make sure to check in with your mother-in-law independently of your spouse. Saying hello on the telephone only after your partner audibly asks you to is not earning you any prizes. Even a quick text to say hi is an impressive move.
