14. Eat Chocolate
A 2004 study at the University of Helsinki found that women who ate chocolate daily during their pregnancy had more cheerful, active babies. Who knew? The same snack that makes us happy seems to make baby happy too. Another 2010 Yale study showed that chocolate, especially dark chocolate, can help prevent preeclampsia.
15. Folic Acid
Doctors recommend that all women of childbearing years take 400 mcg of folic acid each day, but it’s especially important before and during pregnancy as it helps prevent brain and spinal defects. You should increase to 600 mcg during months four through nine and take 500 mcg while nursing.
