6. Don’t speak unless spoken to.
This rule isn’t one we hear much anymore, thank goodness. Kids who are brought up to be submissive and subservient in this manner often struggle with communication skills later in life. In addition, their self-respect and self-confidence can take a hit.
7. Spare the rod and spoil the child.
Study after study shows that spanking is bad. It impedes mental and emotional development in children. At this point, pretty much every authority on raising children, including the American Pediatric Association, says no to spanking.
