Merriam Webster defines political correctness as “agreeing with the idea that people should be careful to not use language or behave in a way that could offend a particular group of people.” Though times change, language always lags behind our ever evolving identity politics and progressive dialogue. Although being politically correct falls in and out of favor over time, depending on who is in power in Washington, and what media outlet you read, the bottom line is that being conscious of others people’s histories and daily experiences when you address or discuss them in public, is the human thing to do.
