This is the most common hearing loss in those who are aging. It’s usually a slow loss of hearing but it can range from a mild loss to complete deafness.

The rapid onset (less than 72 hours) of this auditory illness can be very scary. It’s cause is unknown and there is no approved drug treatment for this disorder which can be accompanied by tinnitus.
