Reflexology is a form of massage for the hands, ears and feet. Practitioners apply pressure to different areas that correspond to the body’s organs and various systems. Foot reflexology has been shown to alleviate anxiety and reduce pain. It’s especially helpful when used in conjunction with Western medicine. Ancient forms of reflexology come from Egypt and China but the modern practice grew out of Russian research in the early 1900s. Reflexology was introduced in the United States, in 1917, by Dr. William Fitzgerald who is often referred to as the father of reflexology.
