Country star Kellie Pickler made the news, but not for a new album or sold-out concert tour. The former American Idol contestant shaved her head, shedding her trademark blonde hair in a show of solidarity with her best friend, Summer Miller, who is starting chemotherapy for breast cancer.
Now that’s what we call a good friend.
Pickler and Miller shaved their heads together, and sent the video to Good Morning America. Pickler says the decision to go shave her head was not just to show support for her dear friend.
She also wants to use the video and her new bald pate as a way of raising awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection.

Her friend Miller, 36, has a family history of breast cancer, so was always careful about breast self-exams. But since most women aren’t advised to have mammograms until they turn 40, Miller’s cancer could have easily gone undetected.
