3. Plastic
Another one of the most important inventions made by mistake came in 1907, when Leo Hendrik Baekeland was attempting to create a synthetic shellac and came up with the first moldable plastic, called Bakelite. This paved the way for the lightweight, durable, yet disposable, plastic we can’t live without today.
