Show them what others have (and do not have). It’s normal for kids to make requests (or maybe demands is a more appropriate term) and it’s definitely normal for them to want what others have. After all, humans are self-centered by nature. But more than ever it is important you teach them that while other people may have things they don’t, some people are not as fortunate as they are. Showing your children that, even though they may not get everything they want, they are lucky in their own ways will instill a sense of perspective and gratitude rather than greed or jealousy.
