  1. Don’t give in to their every demand.
It’s easy to indulge your kids’ every request during the holidays, simply because you love them and you want them to be happy. We get it. We just bought about 6 presents that we swore we wouldn’t get suckered into buying. But try to hold yourself back in an effort to teach your children the value of appreciating what they do receive, rather than being disappointed in what they don’t get. Plus, if you do give in to their every demand you’re totally screwing yourself for next year and every year that follows. Trust us.
  1. Make them think about what they really want.
It’s a great idea to set a limit on how many presents you plan to give to your children ahead of time, and then encourage them to sit down and really think through their wish list. Talk about each item they request and why they want it or what they plan to do with it. You will teach your kids to think about their actions and their requests, and to understand the value of what they hope to receive.
