4. Airlines
Baggage fees have been publicized quite a bit but on top of that, you can expect to pay for extra leg room, the privilege of choosing your seat in advance, boarding early, having a carry on bag and eating…anything. There is actually a little-known rule (enacted in 2012) that requires airlines NOT to include government taxes and fees in the advertised price of a ticket. The Transparent Airfares Act of 2014, introduced in Congress this summer, would reverse that rule.
