Many single women lament Valentine’s Day as one of their most hated days of the year. After all, V-Day is all about couples, love and romance, and if you’re single, February 14 is enough to make you feel defective! But chin up, single ladies, there are plenty of reasons why it’s great to be single on Valentine’s Day. Here are 10 of our favorites.
No carnations: Being single on Valentine’s Day means you’re less likely to be given a bunch of carnations, which are decidedly unromantic and the just about the cheapest flower anyone can buy. We’ll pass.
No bad chocolate: We personally hate chocolate covered cherries, yet they seem to be ubiquitous with Valentine’s Day. Keep your bad, cheap chocolate, and we’ll waste the calories on a bottle of wine!
No bad gifts: Even the best boyfriend can really screw up gift giving, especially on Valentine’s Day. Single gals will never get a small appliance, an awful sweater, tacky lingerie or perfume they hate on Valentine’s Day.
No awkward moments: If you’re single, you never have to worry about your guy proposing on Valentine’s Day, and you having to turn him down.
You can have a girls’ night: Single women can round up their other single friends and have a girls’ night of popcorn and movies (just no romcoms, please!). It’s hard to feel sorry for yourself for being single when you’re laughing so hard with your girlfriends.
You’ll never be stood up: Your Valentine’s Day date can’t stand you up if you don’t have one! Single women are spared the heartache of being stood up by a weasel, and getting all dressed up for nothing.
