6. Breaking a mirror is seven years bad luck.
The Romans believed that mirrors depicted a person’s soul. From this came the idea that if a mirror broke while you were looking at it your soul would be trapped. Apparently, your soul would return after seven years but you’d have bad luck in the meantime.
