7. Declutter and donate.
The idea of spring cleaning doesn’t make a lot of sense, considering that when the weather is getting warm and the flowers are blooming, the last thing you want to do is shut yourself away in a crowded closet with an armful of trash bags. Use an uninviting, gray winter day to do some house and closet de-cluttering, and put aside the good stuff (lightly used) for victims of disasters like Hurricane Sandy (check out FEMA.gov to see how you can donate or help out).
