Skeletons, or calacas, are an important decoration for the holiday and the LaCalaca Festival in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is an amazing spectacle if you can get there. Unlike scary Halloween skeletons, Day of the Dead skeletons are more whimsical, including people wearing skeleton makeup and animal skeletons.
