5. Where do you want to go?
You can cruise the Mississippi river on a reproduction paddle boat. You can sail the historical rivers of Europe, or take on Antarctica to see penguins. Cruise lines sell it all, from Alaska’s Inner Passage to New England fall foliage. Decide where you want to go, and you’ll find a ship to take you there.

6. How long do you want to travel?
Some cruise lines offer “trips to nowhere” of usually a day or two where they leave port, make a big circle and then come back. Generally though, cruises last 4 days to 10 days. Or you can book an around the world cruise, but who has that much vacation time and money?
