The Samba Parade originally took place on Avenida Presidente Vargas, with spectator watching from bleachers on the sidelines. In the eighties, famed Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer was commissioned to design the Sambadrome to accommodate the ever-increasing crowds of spectators.
