On May 8, 1970, the Beatles released their last studio album, Let It Be. It was the end of the Beatles as a group, the end of the First British Invasion Era and, some would say, the end of Rock-n-Roll as a musical genre. Let It Be was the culmination of the band’s long history.
Reflecting on the band’s success, George Harrison once said, “The Beatles saved the world from boredom.” That may not be exactly true, but the Beatles themselves were never boring. The musical contributions of the group include wonderful standards, like Yesterday, rock anthems, like Hey, Jude! and a surprising number of songs that have been adapted to children’s albums.
