8. Otitis Media
This middle ear infection might occur after a cold or could happen with no warning. These are more common in children than adults and require antibiotics to treat. Doctors cannot see the middle ear itself but use visible changes in the appearance of the eardrum to diagnose the issue.
7. Otosclerosis
There isn’t a known cause for this disorder which entails bone growth in the ear creating hearing loss but it would appear to be hereditary as white, middle aged women are the most common sufferers. There is currently no treatment for it either, making it a very sad possibility.
