Okay, we know: the idea of composting doesn’t sound terribly appealing. What if we attract wild animals and smell up the back yard? Not to mention the gross factor if the kids decide it would make a nice place to play. Honestly, it sounds time consuming and it’s just one more thing to add to our already packed day. But then we read this from the EPA: “Food scraps and yard waste currently make up 20 to 30 percent of what we throw away, and should be composted instead.” Then we learned, “Composting has more going for it than almost any other single green living practice I can think of,” from Sheryl Eisenberg, an advisor to the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC). So…we change our minds—everyone should compost!
Now we know that composting is actually pretty easy. It can be done indoors or outdoors and does not take a lot of time. If you examine the many composting benefits, you’ll see that you not only help the environment, but your wallet as well. Since we know it’s something challenging to get on board with, here are 15 reasons to get you into the idea of composting. You’ll see—it’s not that hard at all, and the rewards are plenty.
1. Family Bonding
Composting can be a fun family project. Not only that, it could be a potential future science project for school for one (or all!) of your kids.
