5. Inconsistent laws.
There are no federal laws requiring mandatory identification or background checks for gun owners. Each state has their own laws. As HuffPost reports, “Of the eight states that require residents to show photo identification before voting—Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kansas, Indiana and Wisconsin—all allow residents to purchase firearms through private sales without undergoing any type of background check or showing any form of identification. These sales are cash and carry, and no paperwork is required.”
6. A stubborn people.
As a general rule, Americans don’t like to be told what to do about much of anything, but especially with when it comes to our personal property—which for many people, includes their guns. If we, as a nation, learned to budge on this subject, we would likely have less horrifying gun violence statistics to contend with.
