The fallout continues in the wake of Miley Cyrus’ VMA twerking debacle. Although this form of rump shaking has been around since the early ‘90s, 2013 has officially brought the rear front and center. And 11-year-old Jamie Hena is the latest (and most literal) poster girl for twerking gone awry. After discovering that her daughter had done the forbidden dance, Frances Hena punished her by making her stand on a busy street corner holding a sign reading: I disrespected my parents by twerking at my school dance.

While most parents would agree it’s not appropriate behavior for an 11-year-old girl, some question public shaming as an appropriate punishment. And does anyone see the irony in making Jamie stand on a street corner, broadcasting her suggestive behavior as way of discouraging her from acting like someone who spends her time on street corners?
