Thanks to the earlier concern he had voiced, when he was an elementary school child, I had the opening to explain to my boy that people go out on dates to get to know each other, see if they’re a good fit and perhaps become good friends. After a subsequent breakup, he asked me point blank why I ended the relationship. I was able to explain the philosophic differences that I had with my ex-boyfriend, and my son understood that I was serious in my search, and looking for key things, and that my search was about compatibility, and not just ‘chemistry.’
