Paloma Noyola Martínez’s success as a student is an example of what can be achieved despite adverse conditions. According to Paloma’s mother, the girl has always been a good student. Ever since she started school her grades have always been 10s (the equivalent of As in the U.S.). Paloma is the youngest of eight children. None of her older siblings finished elementary school, and her father died of cancer six months ago. Mexican politicians and the National Education Workers Union should take notice and find inspiration in Paloma’s achievement. Mexico’s educational system can change and make a difference for all students.
