4. Happy Birthday, Stevie Wonder. In 1981, Wonder wrote this song to celebrate Dr. King’s birthday and to promote the creation of a national holiday to honor the slain Civil Rights leader. The holiday was made official in 1983, and Wonder played in concert at the first national observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
