WHAT NOT TO PACK
As a Floridian—Florida’s summer is rainy season too, just like in the DR—I almost packed my yellow rain jacket. In the end I left it behind. A good thing, it turns out, since no Dominican woman would be caught dead in one! They’d rather get wet than wear an unflattering rain poncho or jacket! They will go to great lengths to prevent their hair from getting wet though—even avoiding a dip in the emerald ocean waters on the hottest day. If you want a taste of soft straight hair, consider going to a local hairdresser just for that. Some of my colleagues did and claimed their straight silky locks lasted for days after we returned to the U.S.
