Despite the current inaccurate reflection of society in entertainment today, television networks are trying to reflect these changes. English-language television execs and advertisers have attempted to appeal to the more than 50 million Latinos in the U.S., but Latino viewers have mainly tuned in to watch Spanish-language networks in huge numbers. For example, the final episode of the 2012 season of “Modern Family,” starring popular Columbian actress Sofia Vergara, drew only about six percent of all show viewers, with an average of 798,000 Hispanic viewers in the season. The Mexican telenovela, “La Que No Podía Amar,” on the other hand, attracted 5.2 million viewers, The New York Times reports.
