Wedding anniversary gifts have a long history, dating back at least as far as medieval Germany. A silver wreath was presented to the wife on her 25th anniversary to symbolize the harmony needed to make the marriage last. Since then we’ve expanded that tradition to include symbolic gifts to cover each year up to 60—starting with paper and ending with diamonds. In 1937, the traditional list was updated to include “modern” alternatives.
