No autumn wardrobe revamp is complete without some fab new fall hairstyles for a head-to-toe seasonal update. This year it’s all about cool sophistication highlighted by easy, versatile style and color. One of the biggest fall hair trends celebrates medium-length hair with lots of layers. Celeb stylist Sunnie Brook explains, “All those lobs and long mermaid waves are going to get a good shag! I’m calling it the “swag” (a swingy shag)—long layers and peek-a-boo bangs designed at different lengths depending on your face shape. The key is lots of razored texture and movement in the hair.” Translation: fuss-free style.
Show off your gorgeous neck and shoulders with a fresh, pretty chin-length bob. If you prefer a little more length and love your lob but want to change it up a bit, asymmetrical cuts are back in the fashion forefront. They get a modern update with a little more subtlety and softened edges. For a totally dramatic new you — and a fresh start with unprocessed virgin hair — a pixie is always super cute. And don’t worry about going through the awkward growing out stage because the mixie (a slightly longer more coifed version of the pixie), à la Michelle Williams and Lily Collins, is just as hot.

Fall hairstyles aren’t all about the cut. Let’s start with the part — a deep side part that is. It’s so easy and so transformative and so ’70s meets 2015! Much like the low pony we saw so much of on fall runways. Keep your pony sleek or let it go loose and a tad tousled. Even updos get the just-rolled-out of bed treatment, with messy french twists or slightly undone braided buns. Though ponies are low, the topknot is still right on top. We’re happy to say that the wet look — which is a little to close to greasy and unwashed in real life — has been scaled back with just the very front section of hair slicked down.
This fall hair trends call for lots of cool accessories. Stock up on headbands, dressed up bobby pins and statement hair clips. Anything glittery or bold and graphic will do. Leather add-ons, like headbands or ponytail holders, can be edgy, boho-chic or totally minimal depending on how you wear them. You really can’t go wrong with leather.
We can’t forget about color. Bronde is huge and it’s the perfect antidote to beachy, sun-kissed blonde. It walks a tantalizing line between mousy brown and blonde — Taylor Swift and Cara Delavingne have mastered this look. Rihanna, Katy Perry and Eva Mendes have all recently debuted deep coppery locks which beautifully accent the autumn palette. Candy color hair is still going strong and the dip dye is a fun, flirty (and temporary) way to brighten things up.
After years of striving for dimensional color with lots of lowlights and highlights, single process is finally back. With all of the fabulous at-home color options out there, it’s a snap to do yourself. Deep chocolate brown perhaps. Monotone hair really makes your features pop. So embrace the bedhead and look into some layers stat!
