Since the late ‘60s, when the mantra ‘Let your freak flag fly!’ applied to everything from the purple haze of Woodstock to free-flowing beards, men have sported fairly tame facial hair. The ‘80s brought carefully tended Miami Vice stubble, the ‘90s transitioned from grunge scruff to well-trimmed goatees, and the ‘00s were a melange of soul patches, baby faces, and experimental mustaches.
