Carlos Fuentes, a Mexican author we love, once said, “What the United States does best is to understand itself. What it does worst is understand others.” We have to agree with him there as we observe cultural insensitivity and a sense of global unawareness in those around us. We celebrate the growth of Latino culture in the United States and Hispanic cities around the world.
September is Hispanic Heritage month so we wanted to take a moment to spread some love and awareness to our fellow Americans. You can join in the festivities happening locally (there’s got to be something going on in every major city) or you could take the opportunity to travel to one of the many Hispanic cities to really immerse yourself in the culture. For the adventuresome among you, we put together this list of 10 world cities to visit for a quick dose of Hispanic heritage.
1. Madrid, Spain
This famed city is the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes, a great contributor to both the Spanish language and world literature. Also in Madrid you will find the site of the Real Academia de la Lengua Española and Museo del Prado.
