12. The Legend of El Dorado
Spanish explorers were lured to South America with stories about cities of gold in what is now Colombia. One legend tells of a Muisca king who would cover himself in gold dust during festivals, then dive from a raft into Lake Guatavita. Today, the legend endures and its tales are brought to life in Bogota’s incredible Gold Museum.

During certain months of the year, Caño Cristales River, nicknamed “Liquid Rainbow” turns shades of red, blue, yellow, orange and green in a stunning natural display that happens nowhere else on this planet.
