Mami rarely butts into my love life. That’s because I’ve taught Mami, as well as my familia, to respect my relationships. Like most Latina mamas, Mami once ransacked my drawers, and accused me of “slutty” behavior when she found condoms. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. My sister, or the Dominican Barbara Walters as I once coined her, was just as bad; interrogating every man I ever dated. Until I snatched the microphone out of her hand and made her cry.
