Talking to your kids about transsexuality is a complicated process, which makes sense, since it’s also a complicated topic. For starters, you should know what it means to be transgender, and you should be able to explain that definition to your kids. According to glaad.org, the transgender definition is “an umbrella term for people whose gender identity and/or gender expression differs from what is typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth.” A transgender woman is someone who is born as a male, but currently identifies and lives as a woman. A transgender man is someone who is assigned female at birth, but lives and identifies as a man.
