2. Shawn Hornbeck
This 11-year old taken while riding his bike in a Missouri suburb in 2002. In 2007, he was found, along with another boy, Ben Ownby, in the St. Louis apartment of Michael Devlin, who is now serving a life sentence. Hornbeck was taken by Devlin, who used fear and intimidation to force Shawn to live as his son. He made no attempt to flee his kidnapper, though he was allowed to leave his apartment unattended, had a girlfriend and made friends. It was only when Ben Ownby was kidnapped by Devlin, and the search lead to Devlin’s apartment, that Hornbeck was found.
